DELAWARE, Ohio – The Allegheny women's basketball team traveled to the campus of Ohio Wesleyan  Saturday afternoon, and used a dominating defensive effort to topple the Battling Bishops 60-45.

The first half was a low scoring affair, as both defenses held the offenses in check. The Battling Bishops would score the first bucket of game, but their lead would not last long. Junior Daryl Ford would hit a layup to tie the contest, and sink a pair of free throws as Allegheny would take the early lead.

Allegheny would increase their lead to as much as six in the first half on three different occasions; however, Ohio Wesleyan would keep the Gators within reach. Allegheny would hold the Battling Bishops to just 27.6 percent shooting from the field in the first half, including just 1-6 from behind the arc.

The second half started with the Gators up by four, but not for long. Ohio Wesleyan would strike quickly and tie the game for the third time looking to finally take their first lead since 2-0. Allegheny would crush those dreams though, for as soon as Ohio Wesleyan tied it up junior Heidi Goeller hit a jumper to give Allegheny the lead, and sophomore Erica Restich sank a huge three to give the Gators a five point cushion.

Ohio Wesleyan would try to keep it close, but minutes later the rebounding of Ford and shot making ability of Goeller and Restich would spark Allegheny to a 23-8 run to end the game as, what was a close game throughout, turned into a blow out.

Allegheny's defense would come up big for them in the second half, holding Ohio Wesleyan to just under 23 percent shooting from the floor in the second half, and out rebounding the Battling Bishops 25-17.

Restich would earn her first double-double of the season as she would lead Allegheny with 18 points, including four three pointers, and 10 rebounds as Allegheny would improve to 6-2 on the season, and 2-0 in conference play. Ford would earn her second double-double of the season as she chipped in with 13 points on 4-6 shooting, and a game high 11 boards. Goeller would add 14 points of her own, and freshman Marina Scarantino would contribute with eight rebounds off the bench.

The Gators will be back on the hardwood Tuesday, when they travel to Fredonia, New York to take on the Blue Devils of Fredonia State at 7:00 pm.
