Lady Choctaws Run Away from Sul Ross, 81-49

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College women's basketball team won their third consecutive American Southwest Conference game with an 81-49 victory over Sul Ross State on Thursday night at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Lady Choctaws (3-1, 3-0 ASC) broke open a tight game by outscoring the Lady Lobos (1-3, 0-3 ASC) 49-24 in the second half.

MC led by as many as 11 points in the first half, but Sul Ross climbed back in and cut the score to just 32-25 at halftime.  The Lady Choctaws shot 59% from the floor in the second half and went 15-15 from the free throw line to put the game away.

Junior Ebony Williams led the Lady Choctaws with 16 points on 7-7 shooting from the floor.  The Itawamba CC transfer also led MC with six rebounds and two blocked shots.

Juniors Kristin Newsome and Caitlin Brown each scored 13 points in the contest.  Newsome went 7-7 from the foul line, while Brown tied a career high in points that she set last season against the Lady Lobos.

The Lady Choctaws forced 31 turnovers, recording 16 steals.  Junior Valeri Stewart topped MC with six thefts.

Krista Ford of Sul Ross led all scorers with 18 points on 7-12 shooting.  Ford also paced the Lady Lobos with seven rebounds.

MC held SRSU to just 37% shooting and held a 36-24 rebounding advantage.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they host Howard Payne at 1:00 p.m. in the "Golden Dome".
