CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Senior Kelsey Jipp(Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) hit a pair of free throws with :06.8 to play, as Coe beat Loras 57-55.  It was a battle all night, as neither team led by more than six points.

With the game tied at six and 17:22 to play in the first half, Coe went on an 8-2 run in the next 2:49 to take its largest lead of the game at 14-8.  The Kohawks went cold from the field over the next four minutes, as the Duhawks used a 7-2 run to cut the lead to one.  Back-to-back baskets byCaitlin Kray (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) andLeslie Ware (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) gave Coe a 22-17 lead with 5:31 to play.  The Kohawks hit another cold spell for the rest of the half, as they could only get one basket, a jumper from Ware, with 4:30 to play in the half, as Loras cut Coe's lead to 24-23 at the break.

Ware opened the second half with a jumper and 3-pointer in the first :33, as Coe took a 29-23 lead.  The Duhawks wouldn't go away, as a layup by Katie Langmeier sparked a 10-0 Duhawk run in a three minute span, as Loras took a 33-29 lead with 15:44 to play.  Loras led 39-33 with 10:45 to play before Coe went on a 9-0 run in the next 2:16, taking a three-point lead on a layup and free throw from senior Kayla Waskow(Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton).

As quickly as Coe went on a run to take the lead, Loras did the same.  The Duhawks went on a 9-3 run, with Ware hitting a three for the Kohawks, to take a 50-47 lead with 4:03 to play.  Coe tied the game with 1:09 to play, as sophomore Mackenzie Reed(Iowa City, Iowa/West) hit a jumper in the paint.  Lindsey LaBadie missed a 3-pointer for the Duhawks with :46 to play, as Jipp came away with the rebound for the Kohawks.

With :40 to play, Jipp connected on 1-of-2 free throws, giving Coe a 55-54 lead.  On the opposite end of the floor, Brit Kent connected on 1-of-2 free throws with :24 to play, as Kray grabbed the rebound for Coe on the second free throw.  Following Jipp's free throws with :06.8 left, a last second desperation 3-point attempt from Kent missed, as Coe came away with the victory.

The Kohawks connected on 12-of-21 (57.1%) attempts in the second half, while shooting 44.9 percent for the game.  The Duhawks were held to 31.3 percent shooting for the game.  Both teams struggled from the 3-point line in both halves, as Coe finished 3-of-12 (25%) and the Duhawks were 3-of-16 (19%).  The teams combined to shoot 1-of-16 from 3-point range in the first half.

Ware led the Kohawks with a game-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting.  It was a career-high for field goals for Ware, as she also connected on 3-of-5 attempts from 3-point range.  Waskow joined Ware in double figures with 15 points, while Reed added eight points off the bench.  Freshman Megan Hayes (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) had a game-high nine rebounds, while Waskow added seven.

Hayes had a career-high three assists and three blocked shots, while Waskow finished with a game-high four assists.  Ware added three assists and two steals, while sophomore Hannah Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) had a team-high three steals.

Katie Wheeler and Kelly Rogowski led the Duhawks with 10 points apiece.  Langmeier and Melissa Herrmann had a team-high eight rebounds apiece for Loras.

The Kohawks return to action on Saturday, as they face the University of Dubuque.  Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Dubuque.
