FREDERICK, Md. – Katie McGahagan and Anna Hackett each scored 14 points as the Salisbury University women's basketball team topped Hood College, 57-48, in the Capital Athletic Conference opener for both teams at BB&T Arena on Wednesday.

Josie Hildebrand notched her second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds for SU (2-2, 1-0 CAC). Dyanna Prater posted a game-high 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting for Hood (0-5, 0-1), which never led in the game.

With the game tied, 10-10, midway through the first half, the Sea Gulls used an 8-0 run, keyed by back-to-back buckets by Hackett, to take a lead it would not relinquish with eight minutes left in the first half.

Emily Maerz hit a jumper with 35 seconds left to pull the Blazers within 28-24 at the break.

The Sea Gulls opened the second half on a 6-1 run for their largest lead of the night at nine points, 34-25, with 17:19 remaining. Hood rallied to cut the lead to 38-36 on a Prater layup at the 12:30 mark, but Hildebrand converted a three-point play and Milan Dry hit another free throw with less than 10 minutes left to help SU regain firm control with a 46-40 edge and secure the win.

McGahagan was 4-of-11 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the line while Hackett finished 7-of-14 from the field. Salisbury was 21-of-61 (34.4 percent) on field goal attempts while Hood shot 19-of-58 (32.8).

Hildebrand, who earned her first double-double last Tuesday versus Christopher Newport University, also added game highs of five blocks and two steals with two assists. Dry had seven points, four rebounds, two blocks, two assists and one steal.

Maerz was the only other Blazer player in double figures, coming off the bench for 10 points.

Hood won the battle of the boards, 46-43, but committed five more turnovers, 20-15.

Salisbury is back in action on Thursday, hosting Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute at Maggs Physical Activities Center in the Optimist Classic at 7 p.m.
