ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting William Smith outscored Nazareth 7-2 in overtime Tuesday and ultimately outlasted the Golden Flyers, 60-55, in opening round of the Wendy's College Classic for women's basketball.

William Smith's Liz Douglass scored a team-best 20 points and Jacqueline Murphy contributed 11 points and 13 rebounds as the Herons improved to 2-1 overall and advanced to Thursday's semifinals at RIT. The Herons will play the University of Rochester at 6 p.m.

Nazareth, led by 23 points from Brittany Wilson, dropped to 2-3 overall and will play in a consolation game Thursday against Brockport at 6 p.m. at St. John Fisher. Rochester defeated Brockport, 75-33, in another first-round match-up Tuesday.

By falling in overtime, Nazareth wasted a valiant second-half comeback. William Smith led by as many as 15 points in the first half before settling for a 31-20 lead at the break. The Herons extended that advantage to 14 points, 44-30, in the second half on a basket by Erin O'Brien with 12:37 left.

Nazareth then embarked on a 23-5 scoring run that culminated with the Golden Flyers on top, 53-49, following a basket by Katie Kollar with 2:05 to go. Wilson scored 13 of her points during the run, which featured a go-ahead lay-up by Ashley Gallagher with 6:15 left. William Smith countered with baskets by Sydni Salvatore and Murphy to tie the score at 53 to force overtime.

In the extra five-minute session, Nazareth took an early lead on a basket by Wilson, then was shut out over the final 3:50. Douglass made four free throws to put the Herons on top for good, 57-55, with 1:39 left. Jaimie Rubin made a free throw with :15 left and Murphy sank two more with :12 to seal the win.

Wilson's 23 points featured 10 for 24 shooting from the field. She also had eight rebounds, three assists, four blocks and three steals. Kollar added 11 points and Brittany TallChief had eight points and 13 rebounds.
