SEGUIN, TX - The Mississippi College women's basketball team outscored Texas Lutheran by 17 points in the second half as they picked up their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, 54-38, in Memorial Gymnasium.
After shooting just 24% (5-21) in the first half, the Lady Choctaws picked it up in the second half to the tone of 44% shooting, including making 5-11 three-pointers. A 20-5 run to open the second half put the game away for MC.
The MC defense came to play the entire game, holding the Lady Bulldogs to just 34% (15-44) shooting and forcing 30 turnovers.
Junior Traci Rodgers led the way for the Lady Choctaws with 18 points. Rodgers made 3-8 three-pointers and convereted on 7-8 free throws.
Junior Elizabeth Brooks poured in 13 points for MC, going 3-3 from the three-point line. Junior Kristin Newsome led the Lady Choctaws with eight rebounds.
Rebecca Valdez came off of the bench to lead TLU with 10 points.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Monday night when they travel to face Schreiner at 7:30 p.m.
