More news about: Hood

WAYNESBURG, Pa.--Junior Emily Maerz of the Hood College women's basketball team (0-3) hit five three-pointers and finished a point away from tying her career-high in a 69-45 setback to the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets (2-0) Tuesday evening.

Maerz led all scorers with 17 points, including an impressive 5-of-7 performance from behind the arc. Freshman Rachel Wiley notched her first collegiate "double double" with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Junior Dyanna Prater also reached double figures in the scoring column with 10 points and picked off three steals.

The Blazers whittled a 20-point first-half deficit down to just four early in the second half. Hood ripped off eight unanswered points in less than a minute on a pair of treys by Maerz and a layup by Prater to make it 36-32 Waynesburg with 17:35 left in regulation. However the Blazers endured a four-minute scoring drought, allowing the Yellow Jackets to stretch their lead to 15, and Hood got no closer the rest of the way.

Prater dished two assists and in the process moved into a tie with Michelle Manella '06 on Hood's career assists chart with 169.

The Blazers host their first game of the season in their brand new home, the BB&T Arena, Sunday at 2 p.m. versus Shenandoah University.
