COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team upped its record to 2-0 by toppling Colorado College 61-53.

Meghan Merklein and Megan Ney both posted double-doubles to lead the Bluejays in the victory. Merklein scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds while Ney added 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Elmhurst led by as many as 15 points in the opening half and built a 35-26 lead at halftime. Colorado College (0-2) stormed back in the second half, outscoring the Bluejays 22-9 to take a 48-44 lead with 8:30 remaining. Elmhurst responded with a 10-1 run over the next six minutes to build a 54-49 cushion. Colorado managed to pull to within three points, but a pair of buckets from Merklein and free throws from Ney and Jordan Maisto helped the Bluejays put the game away.

Elmhurst finished the contest shooting 38.6 percent (22-of-57) from the floor, including 22.2 percent (2-of-9) from long range. Colorado shot 33.3 percent (19-of-57) from the field, and only 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from downtown. The Bluejays won the rebounding war, finishing with a 49-36 edge on the glass.

Merklein shot 7-of-11 to lead the Bluejays with 18 points. Ney added five buckets to score her 14 points. Devin Vaughn added nine points for the Bluejays while Fiona McMahon came off the bench to total eight points and four rebounds.

Becky Luetjen led Colorado College in the loss, totaling 17 points and nine rebounds. Jordy Stephenson added 12 points.

Elmhurst takes on Presentation College on Sunday (November 20)
