OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oswego State women's basketball team utilized its bench to pick up its first win of the season in a 72-43 victory over Wells College on the first day of the Max Ziel Tournament Friday at Laker Hall.  The Laker reserves outscored their Express counterparts, 34-10, as 12 Oswego State players saw double-digit minutes. 

Oswego State, which moved to 1-1 overall, will face the College of Mount St. Vincent in the championship game at 4 p.m. on Saturday.  Mount St. Vincent defeated D'Youville, 86-73, to advance, while the Spartans will face Wells in the consolation game at 12 p.m.

It was a back-and-forth affair through the first half until the Lakers went on a 14-2 run over a seven-minute span that was capped off by a Kayla Ryan (Sr., Schaghticoke, N.Y.) steal in the backcourt resulting in a layup to put Oswego State ahead 25-11 with 4:40 to play in the half.

Rachel Mattraw made it a 10-point contest courtesy of an Ashley Roser pass, but Meagan Stover (Jr., Lake George, N.Y.) drained three of her team-high 12 points with a minute remaining to give the Lakers a 30-17 lead at the break.

Early in the second half, Oswego State built a 20-point lead due in part to a 12-4 run that saw Devon Kaminsky (Fr., Walton, N.Y.) run the floor to be on the receiving end of a pass from Kassie Kleine (Jr., Cazenovia, N.Y.) after a Wells turnover.  The Lakers now were up 45-25 with 11:13 on the clock, and saw the lead grow further in the latter stages of the game with the reserves on the floor to cruise to the win.

Stover was the only Oswego State player to reach double digits, but Ryan and Kari Kipper (Jr., Loudonville, N.Y.) added nine points each for a well-rounded team offensive effort.  The Lakers shot well from the floor, shooting 26-for-63 (28.6 percent), in addition to forcing 26 turnovers on 15 steals. 

Wells was paced by Ashley Roser, who posted 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead all players.  Jessilyn Artaho-Aki also contributed 10 points.  The Express struggled from the floor going 14-of-49 from the field (28.6 percent), and were unable to convert any of their four three-point attempts.
