Ashland, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team dropped its season opener 67-51 on the road at Randolph-Macon on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets (1-0) opened the game on a 14-4 run before the Saints responded with a 12-1 run of their own to pull within one with 8:41 to play in the half.  Randolph-Macon would push its lead to double-figures again before eventually taking a 29-24 lead into the break.

Staying within striking distance, MU used a pair of three-pointers by Sam Spencer to pull back within one at 37-36 with 12 minutes to play.  The Saints kept it at least a two possession game through the 6:23 mark courtesy of trifectas from Fischer before RMC would pull away down the stretch on a 17-7 run to close out the game.

Four Yellow Jackets scored in double-figures, led by Taylor Wieczorek with 17.  Maggie Roy added 13, Molly Brown had 12 and Jillian Asay chipped in 10.

The Saints return to action on Friday as they host the annual Marymount Tip-Off Tournament, facing off against Lynchburg at 6 p.m.
