UW-L Advances to WIAC Semifinals; Frank Sets Record

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team advanced to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament Semifinals with a 67-59 victory over UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall. It marks the first time since 2006 UW-L has advanced to the tournament semifinals. The Eagles improve to 20-6 on the season while the Titans finish 12-14. 

UW-L's Danielle Frank set a WIAC Tournament single-game record with 19 rebounds Wednesday night. Amanda Nechuta of UW-Stevens Point held the previous record with 18 rebounds versus UW-Oshkosh during the 2004 WIAC Tournament. 

Frank recorded a double-double Wednesday, finishing with 18 points and 19 rebounds. She also had eight blocks. The Eagles' Dana Churchill finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists.Lindsey Litrenta added 13 points. 

UW-L led 10-5 with 16:24 left in the first half before UW-Oshkosh came back to take a 16-11 lead with a 11-1 run. The contest was tied 20-20 with 6:14 remaining when the Eagles went on a 11-2 run to lead 31-22. UW-L led 35-26 at halftime as Frank had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the first half.

UW-L led 40-28 with 16:52 remaining in the game, but UW-Oshkosh used a 8-3 run to cut the lead to 43-36. The Eagles scored the next six points to take a 49-36 lead with 11:46 left. The Titans cut the deficit to 58-52 with 2:31 remaining, but could get no closer the rest of the game. UW-L made its last six free throw attempts in the final 1:25. 

The Eagles shot 36.5% from the field, including 31.3% (five-of-16) from three-point range, and 80.0% (24-of-30) at the line. Melissa Lang set a career record for three-point field goals made (126) Wednesday night. She finished three-of-six. Nicole Palmer (2003-07) held the record of 123.

Megan Wenig led UW-Oshkosh with 14 points while Laura Ebbens finished with 12 and Katie Kitzke 11. Becca Diedrich led the team with six rebounds. The Titans shot 38.7% from the field, including 41.7% (five-of-12) from three-point range, and 66.7% (six-of-nine) at the line. 

The victory marks the sixth time in school history UW-L has won 20 games in a season and the first since 1987-88 (22-7).
