Stars Roll Past Marian In NAC Quarterfinals

Becky Christofferson connected on a three on the first possession of the game and the Dominican University women's basketball team never looked back, cruising to a 94-54 win over the Marian University Sabres in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Tournament on Tuesday night.

Christofferson's three was one of six first half three-point field goals for the Stars and sparked a 30-8 run for the Stars over the first nine minutes of play.

Dominican led 50-30 at the break behind 19-for-30 shooting from the field.  Freshman Katie Budz (Orland Park, Ill.) scored 14 of her game-high 24 points in the half, going 2-for-3 from three-point range.

The Stars continued to hold the hot hand in the second half, going 12-for-24 from the field and 5-for-8 from three while converting on 15 of 19 attempts from the free throw line.

Budz led three players in double-digits for the Stars with freshman Ashley Oliver (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and scoring 13 points off the Stars' bench and Christofferson adding 12 points in just 23 minutes, below her season average of 31 minutes per game.

The win was the 20th of the season for the Stars and head coach Michael Lane who will host the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons in the NAC semifinals on Thursday night.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM in the Igini Sports Forum.
