Luther, Korber Lead Rochester Past Case Western Reserve

CLEVELAND - Three players scored in double figures as Rochester defeated host Case Western Reserve University, 73-68, at Horsburgh Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.

Jodie Luther scored 20 points to lead the Yellowjackets. Madeline Korber scored a career high 18 points, and Melissa Alwardt added 14 points, including four three-point goals.

Evy Iacono led the Spartans with 20 points. Caitlin Henry scored 16, and Erin Hollinger had 15.

Rochester improved its record to 19-5 overall, 9-4 in the University Athletic Association. The Yellowjackets finish the regular season at Emory University next Saturday. Case is 12-12 overall, 6-7 in the UAA. The Spartans will host Carnegie Mellon next Saturday.

Jackie Walker scored six points and grabbed a career best 10 rebounds. She had two in the last 90 seconds as the Yellowjackets held on to a one-point lead.

Case had just pulled within 69-68 on two free throws with 2:07 to play. Laney Ming missed a long jumper for Rochester. Hollinger missed a lean-in jumper on the baseline and Walker rebounded. She got the ball to Alwardt who made both ends of a one-and-one, stretching the lead to 71-68 with 0:54.2 on the clock.

Iacono missed from the block and Walker rebounded again. She was fouled with 26.9 seconds left and sank both ends of the one-and-one for the final margin.

In the latest regional rankings, Rochester is first in the East. The Yellowjackets are trying to gain a Pool C bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. Selections will be announced on February 28 with the tournament beginning on March 4-5.
