Strong Second Half Secures Win for Swarthmore

(Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's basketball team suffered another tough loss, falling at Swarthmore, 62-46 on Saturday afternoon.

 

The teams played to a 6-6 tie in the opening seven minutes before a 12-2 run put Swarthmore in front, 18-8 with 7:03 to play in the first half. The Red Devils answered with a 9-4 run to pull within 22-17 at the break.

 

The teams traded baskets again to start the second half with the Garnet leading, 32-28, with just over 16 minutes remaining. Swarthmore used an 8-2 run to stretch the margin back to 10 points with 13:08 on the clock. The Devils cut the deficit back to single digits momentarily, but Swarthmore would continue to build the lead for the remainder of the contest.

 

Senior Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) recorded her 16th career double-double and fifth of the season with a game-high 15 points and 11 rebounds. She added a pair of steals and hit 5-of-8 free throws on the afternoon.

 

Classmate Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) scored 10 points, adding a pair of assists and a steal while sophomore Lindsay Finnerty (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) tallied seven points and junior Taylor Miller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) dished out four assists to go with four rebounds and a pair of steals.

 

Kathryn Stockbower led Swarthmore (10-4, 6-3) with 13 points and 14 rebounds, blocking three shots on the day.

 

The Red Devils slip to 6-8 overall and 4-6 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
