Eleven players score points as Western New England defeats Anna Maria in TCCC contest

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore guards Shelby Van Huysen (Killingworth, CT) and Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) combined for 27 points to lead the Western New England women's basketball team to a 65-19 victory over visiting Anna Maria Wednesday evening (Feb. 16) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Van Huysen came off the bench to make 5-of-8 shots from the field, including 4-of-7 three-pointers. She also pulled down five rebounds and had three steals in 19 minutes,

Savino scored the team's first nine points to help the Golden Bears take a commanding 34-13 lead at the break. She also dished out a game-high five assists.

Freshman guard Ali Pessolano (Hampden, MA) had another fine showing with nine points, making all three three-point attempts. Senior forward Kelly McCormick (Manchester, CT) grabbed a team high six rebounds.

Also for Western New England, freshman center Ashley Flood (Rutland, VT) scored her first career point and compiled a season high four rebounds. Freshman guard Kelsey Daniels (South Windsor, CT) had her best game of the season with six points, three rebounds, and three steals.

Sophomore center Chelsea Blair (Holland, MA) led the AMCATS with eight points. Junior guard Samantha Ashton (Worcester, MA) enjoyed a nice outing with seven points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Western New England improved its record to 14-10 and 6-6 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

Anna Maria drops to 7-17 and 1-11 in conference play.

This was Play-for-a-Cause night (lung cancer) for the Golden Bears who dedicated the game in memory of their late assistant coach Doug Pearson who passed away two years ago from complications following cancer surgery.
