(Baltimore, Md.) – Following a thrilling road win at McDaniel College on Thursday night the Dickinson College women's basketball team was on the road again on Saturday against another strong Centennial Conference opponent. The Red Devils played even throughout the first half but a strong showing in the second led Johns Hopkins to a 58-35 win.
The Red Devils jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before the Blue Jays went on a 15-2 run to take a nine point advantage at the 11:17 mark. Hopkins held a six point lead for almost the rest of the first half. Junior Taylor Miller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) hit a three-pointer and a jumper to cut the deficit to 22-21 with 3:05 remaining in the first half.
Senior Annie O'Donnell (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) answered a Blue Jay basket with a three-pointer to tie the game, 24-24, with 47 seconds on the clock. Stephanie Wong dropped in half court shot at the buzzer to give Hopkins a 27-24 lead at halftime.
Senior Carole Dempsey (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) scored a lay-up and hit a free throw to start the second half, quickly knotting the game at 27. The Blue Jays built another lead with a 12-2 run, pulling front 41-29 with 12:30 remaining in regulation. Hopkins extended the lead to 49-31 with just over six minutes to play and continued to build the advantage down the stretch.
Dempsey led the Red Devils with nine points and 11 rebounds while classmate Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa/Blair Academy) added eight points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Miller chipped in with nine points and a pair of assists.
Siobhan Callanan led the Blue Jays (7-1, 4-0 CC) with a game-high 15 points while Fong finished with 12. Lyndsey Burton had a game-high 15 rebounds to with eight points.
The Red Devils slip to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference. They travel to Albright College on Wednesday night for non-conference match up at 6:00 pm.
