Johnson & Wales Women's Basketball Knocks Off Norwich, 54-52

Northfield, Vt. – Freshman Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) scored the game-winning layup with :02 left to give the Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team to a thrilling 54-52 victory against Norwich in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Andrews Hall on Saturday afternoon.

Juron led all scorers with 24 points while sophomore Ayla Walter (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) notched 16 points and four rebounds for the Wildcats.

Christine Daniels led the way for Norwich with 18 points and a game-high 20 rebounds while Karissa Doyon added 14 points and six boards in the setback.  Megan Gingras had 10 points and eight caroms for the Cadets.

JWU held Norwich to just 27.3% from the field and forced the Cadets into 18 turnovers.

The two squads battled back-and-forth throughout the early stages with the game tied 14-14 with 11:55 left in the first half.  Norwich closed out the half on a 22-9 and took the 36-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.

JWU chipped away at the lead and tied the game 44-44 with 11:42 remaining on a layup by Juron.  With the game tied 52-52 on a jumper by Walter with 3:07 remaining, neither team could hit a basket down the stretch.  The game remained tied until Juron's layup gave the Wildcats the 54-52 victory.

With the win JWU is now 7-16 for the season and 4-6 in the GNAC while Norwich falls to 15-7, 7-3 in league play.  The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, February 15th when they travel to Lasell for a GNAC contest, starting at 6:00 p.m.
