WATERVILLE, Maine --- Rachael Mack (Augusta, Maine) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with game-highs of 20 points and 15 rebounds to help the Colby College women's basketball close out the regular season portion of their home schedule with a 75-59 win over Bridgewater State on Tuesday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
Mack shot 8-for-12 from the field, including a 3-point shot, and also dished three assists. The 6-foot-2 junior raised her career totals to 826 points and 550 rebounds.
Colby shot almost 54 percent from the field (31-for-58), had 28 team assists on 31 made baskets, and nailed eight of its 11 3-point attempts.
Diana Manduca (Portland, Maine) had 12 of her 14 points (4-for-5 from 3-point range) in the opening half and had a collegiate-high eight assists. She has had seven assists in three games this season and now leads the Mules with 82 assists this year. Jayde Bennett (Lynn, Mass.) tied her collegiate-high by also dishing eight assists and contributing five first-half steals. Bennett also had eight assists in a win over Thomas College last year.
Jules Kowalski (Montville, N.J.), the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week for last week, added 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting and blocked two shots. She moved within 12 points at 988 in her quest to become the 14th player in program history to reach 1,000 points. Jil Vaughan (Wareham, Mass.) added eight points on 4-for-5 shooting and blocked a pair of shots, while Karlyn Adler (Rye Brook, N.Y.) was 3-for-4 from the field and had seven points.
Bridgewater State (14-6) battled hard defensively and on the boards. The Mules came into the game ranked first in the NESCAC in rebounding margin (11.6), but only had a 36-33 advantage on Tuesday. Corey Cuddihy (Scituate, Mass.) finished with 18 points, including a 5-for-9 effort from 3-point range, and added six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Monica Bharoocha (North Smithfield, R.I.) added 15 points and five rebounds, while the trio of Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.), Brittney Chappron (Braintree, Mass.), and Megan Boutilette (Charlton, Mass.) all had seven points.
Colby held a 19-15 lead with 11:13 left after DePina scored for Bridgewater State. The Mules used a 14-0 run, including two 3-point shots from Manduca, to open up a 34-19 margin on the way to a 36-26 lead at intermission.
Bridgewater State scored the first point of the second half to cut Colby's lead to nine points, but Jacky McLaughlin (Medfield, Mass.) nailed a 3-point shot moments later to put Colby up by 12. The Mules never allowed Bridgewater State to cut the lead to single digits the rest of the way.
