Pointers Cruise Past Yellowjackets

More news about: UW-Superior

Stevens Point was not the most hospitable place for UW-Superior on Saturday.  Early in the afternoon, the Yellowjacket men's basketball team suffered their largest defeat of 2010-11.  Later in the afternoon, the Pointer women did the same to the Yellowjacket women.

Britta Petersen scored 18, while Christin Coles added 13 points, leading the way for Stevens Point en route to a 95-49 victory over the Yellowjackets.

The loss snaps the Yellowjackets' two-game winning streak.

The Pointers hit the ground running, shooting 60% in the first half and jumping out to an 8-0 lead before Connie Urmanski (Edgar, Wis.) layup got the Yellowjackets on the board.  The Pointers continued their hot shooting and led 56-27 at the break.  In the second half the Pointers cooled down some, but the damage was done and they coasted to their 18th win of the season, knocking off the Yellowjackets for the second time in three weekends.

Hailey Hart (Osseo, Wis.) led the Yellowjackets with points, the only Yellowjacket to score in double figures.  Bri Davis (Hermantown, Minn.) had seven rebounds and Urmanksi four assists to lead the offense.  Urmanski and Jesa Hall (Glenwood City, Wis.) had two steals apiece.

The Yellowjackets (8-12 overall, 2-9 WIAC) are back in action at Mertz Mortoreill Gym on Saturday, February 5 when they play host to UW-La Crosse at 5:00 p.m.  Saturday is Parents Day and Alumni Day at Mortorelli Gym and the Yellowjackets will host their women's basketball alumni game at 11:30 a.m.
