Egner Notches 400th Career Win in Rout of Superior

STEVENS POINT – Coach Shirley Egner notched her 400th career win at UW-Stevens Point on Alumni Day as her Pointers cruised to a 95-49 victory over UW-Superior on Saturday afternoon in Berg Gymnasium.

Christin Coles managed to get the Pointers off to a hot start as she connected on three of the teams first four baskets, including two three-pointers, to give UW-Stevens Point a 10-2 advantage. 

The Pointers continued to add to their lead as their hot shooting continued as well as playing strong defense.  Point connected on 21-of-35 of their shots in the first half including 7-of-14 from three. 

The defense forced UW-Superior to turn the ball over as they scored 21 points off turnovers compared to the Yellowjackets four.  The Pointers were able to take a 56-27 lead into halftime.

Brooke Allen opened up the second half just as Coles did in the first as she connected on three three-pointers giving the Pointers a 76-43 lead with 8:36 remaining in the game.

UW-Stevens Point was able to add on with their bench as 12 of the 13 players who played scored.  The Pointers bench outscored the Yellowjackets 46-28 on the day, led by Liz Altoff with 11 and Josi Schultz with 10.

The Pointers took their biggest lead at 46 on their final basket, resulting in a 95-49 final score.

Britta Petersen shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the field to lead the Pointers with 18 points.  Coles also scored in double figures with 13.  Myranda Tyler controlled the paint as she led both teams with nine rebounds. 

Of Point's 38 baskets made, 28 of those were assisted with Andrea Flease leading the way with seven.

Hailey Hart was the only Yellowjacket in double figures with 13 points.

UW-Stevens Point (18-2, 11-0 WIAC) will continue their conference play as they travel to UW-Stout to face the Blue Devils.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
