Cleveland, Ohio, February 6, 2011 – The No. 7 Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team kept pace in the University Athletic Association (UAA) standings with a 69-47 win at Case Western Reserve University on Sunday afternoon at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio.

Washington U., which improved to 17-3 overall, 8-1 in the UAA, continues to trail the University of Chicago by one game in the UAA standings. The Maroons completed a weekend sweep with a 76-43 victory at Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday.

The Bears wrap up their four-game road trip at Emory University on Friday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m. (ET), and at No. 18 University of Rochester on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 11:30 p.m. (ET).

Washington U. struggled from the field in the first five minutes of the contest, missing eight of its first nine shots. A three-pointer from junior Claire Schaeperkoetter gave the Bears a 12-9 advantage, and then a lay-up by sophomore Kristin Anda made it 14-9 with 9:52 left in the first half.

Case Western Reserve (10-10, 4-5 UAA) tied the contest at 14-14 following a three-pointer from the corner by Caitlin Henry, but that would be the last lead of the game for the Spartans. Washington U. would end the half on an 11-0 run in the final 4:48 as the Bears took a 32-19 lead to the locker room. Senior Alex Hoover scored the final five points of the first half, drilling a three-pointer from the corner and then a runner with six seconds remaining.

The Bears shot just 37.5 percent (9-24) in the first half, but connected on five of their last seven shots. Washington U. also hit 11-of-13 from the foul line in the opening 20 minutes of play, including the final eight.

After scoring just two points in the first half, the Bears went to senior Kathryn Berger on the first play of the second half. Berger beat her defender for a lay-up and was fouled, and drained the free-throw to make it a 16-point lead (35-19). Case went the final 4:58 of the first half and the first 1:29 of the second half without a field goal.

Hoover bettered her feat from the first half with five points in 44 seconds, as her runner with 15:00 left in the game pushed Washington U.'s lead to 40-24. Case scored the next four points to get the lead down to 12, capped by Erin Hollinger's eight-foot jumper, which pushed her over the 1,000-point plateau. Hollinger is just the 10th player in school history to achieve the feat.

Following a timeout from Washington U. head coach Nancy Fahey, the Bears put the game out of reach with a 15-4 run to take a 23-point lead (55-32).

Hoover finished with a game-high 17 points on 3-of-3 shooting from the three-point range and 4-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line, while Schaeperkoetter tied a season-high with 13 points. Junior Dani Hoover filled up the stat sheet with nine points, four rebounds and four assists.

Washington U. shot 41.1 percent (23-56) from the field, and hit 6-of-12 from free-throw line. The Bears also hit 17-of-22 (77.3 percent) from the free-throw line in the win, and had an 18-9 advantage in points off turnovers and 28-5 in bench points.

Marissa Miles (14 points) and Hollinger (11 points) scored in double figures for Case, which dropped its fifth-straight game over a top-15 opponent. The Spartans shot 31.5 percent (17-54) in the loss, and had 19 turnovers.
