PITTSBURGH - - Led by Bryanne Halfhill's game-high 22 points, the 11th-ranked University of Chicago defeated University Athletic Association rival Carnegie Mellon University 76-43 in women's basketball action Sunday afternoon.
Chicago (17-3 overall, 9-0 UAA) for the sixth time this season never trailed in the contest. The Maroons opened up a 31-19 halftime gap and led by at least 25 points for the game's final 10:16.
Halfhill, who also handed out five assists, connected on four of eight three-point field goal attempts.
Taylor Simpson finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Dana Kaplan and Morgan Herrick added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Kaplan (pictured) hit five of seven field goal attempts and was 2-for-2 from three point range en route to reaching her season scoring high.
Jacki Cortese paced the Tartans (2-17, 0-9) with 12 points. Gina Tudi chipped in 10.
With their 13th straight win, the Maroons remained one game ahead of Washington (Mo.) University in the UAA standings.
