#25 Kohawks hold off Storm for 16th-straight win

Simpson opened the game with an 8-0 lead in the first 1:59, as the Kohawks started showing signs of the previous 19 games at Simpson.  Coe battled right back with a 9-1 run of their own in the next 1:26 to tie the game.

With 6:49 to play in the opening period, the Storm scored seven-straight points in 2:42 to take their largest lead of the game at 32-23.  The Kohawks waited until the final 3:38 to turn things on, as they ended the half on a 12-1 run, taking a 35-33 lead at the break.
Just like the end of the first half, Coe opened the second half on a 6-0 run, giving them their largest lead of the game at 41-33 with 19:21 to play.  The perennial power Storm wouldn't go away easy, as they scored six-straight points in under a minute to get the game back within two at 45-43 with 16:34 remaining.
Coe had a one point lead with 11:14 to play, but went on an 18-10 run in the next 4:37 to take a nine point lead with 6:09 remaining, their largest of the game.  Again, the Storm got back in the game with a 12-3 run over the next 3:20 to tie the game at 74 with 2:36 remaining.
Senior Devvin Rolston (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) hit a layup with 2:16 to go, giving Coe a lead they wouldn't give up the rest of the game.  Simpson got a free throw from Stacey Schutjer with 1:55 to play, but junior Kayla Waskow (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) hit a jumper with :40 to play to take a three point lead.
Jeni Hegstrom hit one free throw with :10 to play for the Storm, but senior Kayla Lincoln (Maynard, Iowa/West Central) hit two on the opposite end with :09 left for Coe to take a four-point lead.  Simpson made the game one possession again as Amy Hamilton hit a 3-pointer with :08 to play, cutting Coe's lead to one.
With :03 left, Waskow hit one free throw and the Storm weren't able to get a shot off, as Coe escaped with the win and a tie for first place in the Iowa Conference.
Senior Sarah Anciaux (Iowa City, Iowa/City) led the Kohawks with a game-high 23 points and seven rebounds.  She moved into third on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,048 points and became the fourth player to make 200 or more free throws, as she went 9-of-9 from the charity stripe today.
Lincoln and Waskow joined Anciaux in double-figures with 18 and 15 points respectively.  Waskow became the 23rd player in school history to score 700 or more points in a career.  Lincold added six rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while Waskow had five boards.
 
Rolston had seven rebounds, while freshman Cassie Gehling (Halbur, Iowa/Carroll Kuemper) added five.  Senior Kaitlin Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) had a team-high six assists, while junior Leslie Ware (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) tied a career-high with five assists.
As a team, the Kohawks shot 46.6 percent, including 8-of-20 from 3-point range.  The Storm shot 48.3 percent, but went just 2-of-13 from 3-point range.
The Kohawks improve to 19-2 overall and 11-1 in league play with the win.  The 19 wins is tied for the second most wins in school history.  Coe will return to action on Wednesday, as they travel to Loras.  Tip-off in Dubuque is scheduled for 6 p.m.
