St. Mary's City, Md. – Marymount University's women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing-streak with a 66-62 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday. With the win, the Saints complete the season sweep over the Seahawks.
Maame Amponsah led the Saints (10-8, 8-4 CAC) with 19 points and 20 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season. Beth Wiggins added 16 points to go with eight rebounds and six assists while Amanda Billy chipped in 14 points with three boards and three steals.
A back-and-forth first half saw three ties and nine lead changes before SMC (10-11, 6-7 CAC) took the upperhand at the 12:03 mark. The Seahawks led by as many as nine in the half and took a 35-26 lead going into the break.
Coming out of halftime, St. Mary's would push its advantage to double-figures and as many as 13 points before the Saints started to chip away at the lead. Down 48-38 at the 12:28 mark, Marymount retook the lead via a 13-2 run over the next seven minutes. With the game knotted at 54-54, Amponsah would score five-straight unanswered points to put the Saints up for good.
Jamie Roberts led the Seahawks with 20 points while Shana Lewis posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Pui Sham also scored in double-figures with 12 points.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday on the road at Wesley. The Saints previously defeated the Wolverines 47-42 in January.
