BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior Kathryn Stockbower broke the NCAA Division III record for career double-doubles, recording the 80th double-double of her career with an 18-point, 10-rebound performance to lead the Swarthmore College women's basketball team in a 62-50 loss to first-place Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon from Goldfarb Gym.

In fitting fashion, Stockbower broke the record on the home court of the previous record holder. She surpassed Johns Hopkins alum Julie Anderson '98, who held the record with 79 career double-doubles for the previous 12 seasons. The Garnet senior captain sealed the record-breaking double-double with an offensive rebound with 4:04 left to play in the game.
 
Despite the efforts of the Stockbower and her teammates, a valiant second-half Swarthmore (12-9, 8-8) rally fell short, as the Blue Jays (17-4, 14-3) held on for the victory. Johns Hopkins saw three players reach double-figures, led by Chantel Mattiola's 18-point performance.
 
Junior Genny Pezzola scored a season-high 12 points while sophomore Madeline Ross added 11 for the Garnet.

Swarthmore dug itself in an early hole, falling behind the Blue Jays by as much as 17 points in the first half. Five consecutive points from Pezzola to end the half saw the Garnet trim the lead to 32-20 heading into the break.

In the second half, the Swarthmore effort was much improved, as the Garnet played the Blue Jays even until the final whistle.

Another three-pointer from Pezzola followed up by a lay-up from Stockbower saw the Garnet get to within single-digits at 40-32 with 14:35 to play. But on the next possession, Hopkins shifted the momentum back into the Blue Jay corner, as reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week Stephanie Fong nailed a three to bring the lead back to 11 at 43-32.

From there, the Blue Jays would never led the Garnet get it within single digits for the remainder of the game. A three-pointer from freshman Katie Lytle cut the lead to 10 at 58-48 with 3:03 left to play, but Hopkins sealed it at the line, finishing six-of-six down the stretch to finish off the game.

Along with her double-double, Stockbower finished with a season-high six steals.

Swarthmore finished the game with a 20-16 edge in points in the paint.

Swarthmore returns to Centennial Conference action on Wednesday when it travels to Washington College for a pivotal battle which may decide a playoff spot. Action is slated for 6:00 p.m.
