Top-Ranked Thomas More Defeats Geneva, 70-41, For Sixth Straight 20-Win Season

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The top-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team defeated Geneva College, 70-41, tonight (Wednesday, February 2, 2011) at the Connor Convocation Center to clinch a sixth straight 20-win season.

With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 20-0.  With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 8-12 overall.

Thomas More jumped out to a 13-2 lead with 16:25 to play in the first half when sophomore forward/center Katie Kees (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) made one-of-two free-throws.  Geneva responded with a 7-5 run capped by a three-pointer by Rachel Rouan to cut the lead to 18-9 with 12:22 to play in the half.  Thomas More answered with a 15-2 run capped by a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati,Ohio/Mother of Mercy) with 5:54 to play in the half to extend the lead to 33-11.  Geneva used a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 35-20 with 1:41 to play in the opening half when Valerie Hamilton made a jumper.  The Saints closed out the half on a 5-0 run to take a 40-20 halftime lead when freshman guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made one-of-two free-throws with five-seconds to play in the half.

The Saints opened the second half on a 14-0 run to extend the lead to 54-20 when Brunsman made two free-throws with 11:53 to play in the game.  Geneva responded with a 20-12 run to cut the lead to 66-40 with 2:07 to play on a jumper by Ishea Jennings, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More closed out the game on a 4-1 run for the 70-41 victory.

Thomas More had three players reach double-figures as sophomore guard Chelsea Tolliver (Morning View, Ky./Simon Kenton) scored a game-high 12 points and Kees and freshman forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) each finished with 11 points.  Kees led the team on the boards with seven rebounds, while senior forward Amy Stultz (Amelia, Ohio/McNicholas) led the team in assists with four and senior center Nicole Dickman (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) led the team in blocks with two.

The Saints return to action on Saturday (February 5) when they travel to Washington, Pennsylvania to play Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Washington & Jefferson College at 4 p.m. at the Henry Memorial Center.
