Kohawks roll Rams for 15th-straight win

The Kohawks hit three 3-point baskets in the first four minutes, including two from junior Leslie Ware(Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) as they jumped to the quick 11-0 lead.  The Rams cut the lead to eight with 11:27 to play in the half, but Coe responded with an 8-0 in 2:11, including two more treys, to take a 21-5 lead with 8:55 to play in the opening half.

Coe held a 31-17 lead at halftime, but Ware hit her fourth 3-point basket of the game just :10 into the second half.  Cornell used four-straight points from Kathryn Schilling to cut Coe's lead to 13 with 17:27 to play.  The Kohawks responded with a 14-3 run over the next 5:12, putting the game away. 

The Rams tried to get back in it with a 6-0 run, but with 8:36 to play, Coe went on a 17-5 run that stretched nearly six minutes to seal the game.  The Kohawk lead had increased to 31 with 2:26 to play, but Coe was scoreless from that point on and the Rams got a jumper from Rose Waskosky with :04 left to make it 67-38.

Coe shot lights-out from 3-point range, as they went 11-of-22 in the game, hitting 50 percent in both halfs.  Senior Kayla Lincoln (Maynard, Iowa/West Central) and Ware each had four treys.  Ware led the Kohawks with 14 points, while seniorSarah Anciaux (Iowa City, Iowa/City) added 13.

Lincoln and senior Kaitlin Breitbach (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) joined them in double figures with 12 and 10 points apiece.  Breitbach tied her career-high with just the second double figure scoring outing of her career.

Lincoln led the Kohawks with nine rebounds, while freshman Mary Halvorson(Waterville, Iowa/Waukon) had seven.  Freshman Cassie Gehling (Halbur, Iowa/Carroll Kuemper) tied a career-high with six boards, while senior Devvin Rolston (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton) had five.

Breitbach tallied a game-high eight assists, while Ware added three.  Lincoln had five blocked shots, while Breitbach had three steals.  Anciaux added two steals.

The Kohawks improved to 18-2 overall and 10-1 in the Iowa Conference with the win.  They will put their 15 game winning streak on the line Saturday afternoon, as they travel to league-leading Simpson.  Tip-off in Indianola is scheduled for 2 p.m.
