BRISTOL, R.I. – Salve Regina University extended its winning streak to 12 games while staying undefeated in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 62-57 win over the Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team Wednesday evening.

The Hawks dug themselves in a deep hole to start off the game, as RWU would miss 14 of its first 15 shots in the game and falling behind 3-20 over the opening eight-plus minutes. It would take the majority of the remainder of the period for RWU to climb back into the game, with a jumper by Ari Renwick (Westwood, Mass.) cutting the deficit to seven (23-30) with 1:42 left in the half. The Seahawks would eventually take a 32-24 lead into the break.

In the beginning of the second half, Roger Williams would slowly chip away at Salve Regina's lead, ultimately taking the first lead of the game on a layup by Alexandria Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) at the 12:01 mark to make it 40-39.

From there, both teams battled back-and-forth with the lead changing six times over the next seven minutes, until Marissa Pendergast (Medfield, Mass.) broke a 50-50 tie with a pair of free throws to give the Seahawks a lead they would not give up.

The Hawks made it a close finish in the final minute, with Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) connecting on a three-point play with 50 seconds to play to make it a 57-58 game in favor of Salve Regina. Yet the Seahawks made two crucial plays in the final minute to hold on for the win. On the next possession, Salve Regina's Pendergast laid in a bucket to bring the lead back to three, followed by an offensive rebound by Victoria Audet (Broad Brook, Conn.) off the front end of a 1-and-1 to secure the win.

Four Seahawks scored in double figures, including Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.) with a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds. Pendergast finished with 15 points and four rebounds, while Audet and Kimberly Horan (Webster, Mass.) each scored ten.

Bovee notched a double-double for the Hawks with a career-high 21 points and 13 rebounds. Lanieri added 14 points and eight rebounds, with Elizabeth Kilzi (Waverly, Pa.) chipping in with 12 points.

Roger Williams (12-7, 5-3 TCCC) plays the University of New England on the road Saturday at 1:00 p.m., while Salve Regina (17-3, 8-0 TCCC) puts its undefeated TCCC record on the line against Colby-Sawyer College, also on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
