LISLE, Ill. -- Shataya McComb (Kingston, N.Y.) made a clutch 3-point basket with 50 seconds remaining to give Alverno College a four point lead, and Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) went 3-of-4 from the free-throw line in the final seconds to seal the 57-50 victory over host Benedictine University this afternoon at the Rice Center in Lisle, Ill.

The Inferno (9-10, 6-7 Northern Athletics Conference) were dominant on the boards as they outrebounded the Eagles 52-31, including 14-10 on the offensive glass.

"Our commitment to doing the little things was tremendous," Alverno head coach Brad Duckworth said, "and it showed in the stats today. Having four players with seven-plus rebounds is the reason we won."

McComb (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Kontowski (15 points, 11 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles in the game, while Gabby Allen (Milwaukee, Wis./Bay View) scored 14 points, added seven rebounds and had five assists.

Alyssa Jensen (Cudahy, Wis.) also snagged seven rebounds and recorded three blocks on the defensive end.

The Inferno shot just 39 percent from the floor, but were 54 percent from beyond the 3-point arc led by Kontowski and McComb who both were 3-of-3 from downtown.

The Eagles were held to under 30 percent shooting and were only 25 percent from the 3-point arc, going 0-of-10 in the second half after a great 5-of-10 performance in the first period.

Alverno picked up their first win at the Rice Center in school history, the first in seven tries down in Lisle.

Benedictine (11-7, 7-5) was led by Jenn Bren's 12 points (5-of-16 shooting) and 10 rebounds.

Alverno hosts NAC North Division-leader Concordia University Wisconsin on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Reiman Gymnasium.
