WASHINGTON – CUA fell to Juniata on Saturday afternoon by a score of 76-60 inside the DuFour Center as the Cardinals drop to 13-7 overall and 5-4 in the Landmark Conference.  The teams were tied at 32 after one half of play, but CUA was done in by a rough second half in which it shot just 31 percent and was outscored 44-28.

Juniata led 51-42 with 12:53 to play in the game, but CUA's Jill Woerner splashed a three to bring the Cardinals within 51-45.  The Eagles answered with seven straight points though to open up a 58-45 advantage with 9:46 on the clock.

CUA refused to go away, pulling to within seven on a Mary McGann steal and layup with 8:04 remaining, but from there the Cardinals went scoreless for the next 4:32 and the Eagles scored ten straight points to put the game out of reach at 68-51.

Woerner scored a game-high 19 points for CUA and was joined in double figures by Jenny McGann with 14.  Emily Grabiak was the leading rebounder with six caroms, while senior Kerri Confrey handed out eight assists and also totaled three of CUA's 19 steals.

Natalie Glinksy scored 16 points to lead Juniata, while Kate McDonald and Paige Robertson netted 11 apiece.  The Eagles dominated the backboards, pulling down 49 to only 34 by CUA, but Juniata did turn the ball over 31 times.

The Cardinals opened the game with an 8-0 run in the first 2:32 and after five minutes had elapsed CUA found itself up 12-2. 

Juniata slowly got back into it, pulling to within 14-12 on a pair of free throws from Robertson with 12:04 on the first half clock.

Katarina Owunna responded with a bucket for CUA to extend to a four-point advantage, and that started an 8-0 run by the Cardinals that opened up a 10-point bulge with 9:36 remaining.

Jen Hnatuck's layup at the 6:10 mark brought the Eagles within six, but Grabiak sank a three down the other end to put CUA back up by nine.

Holly Janicki hit one of two free throws with 2:44 to play to make it a five-point game, but that proved to be the Cardinals final points of the half as the Eagles scored the last five to send the game into intermission knotted at 32.

The Cardinals will next be in action on Friday, February 4 when they travel to Pennsylvania to take on the Moravian Greyhounds.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
