NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's basketball ran its win streak to 10 games following a 59-34 victory over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action at Rodgers Recreation Center.

After Leopard sophomore Ashley Conway (Danvers, Mass.) scored on a layup on her team's first possession, Salve Regina (15-3; 6-0 TCCC) tied the score with an Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.) jumper and then Kim Horan's (Webster, Mass.) 3-pointer gave the Seahawks the lead for good. This started a 24-2 run for the Seahawks and also featured 3-pointers from sophomore Kaitlyn Birrell (Hope, R.I.) and freshmen Lisa Bucci (Irvington, N.Y.) and Taylor Windwer (Milton, Mass.).

Salve Regina senior guard Liane Barone (Johnston, R.I.) became the fifth different Seahawk to hit a 3-pointer in the first half with her trey in the final minute.

Wentworth (8-10; 2-4 TCCC) closed the first half with a 13-6 run and a jumper from senior forward Kirsten Vallone (Avon, N.Y.). Conway had a layup and 3-pointer early in the second half to bring the Leopards as close as 12 points (38-26 with 15:41), but a Birrell 3-pointer triggered a 21-8 run for the Seahawks to finish the game.

Conway led all scorers with 14 points while teammate Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, Mass.) topped all rebounders with seven. Birrell and freshman forward Marissa Pendergast (Medfield, Mass.) paced Salve Regina with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Pendergast and senior Olivia Browning (Trumbull, Conn.) finished with five rebounds apiece. A dozen different Seahawks recorded a rebound, but Wentworth held a one-carom edge overall (39-38)

The current 10-game win streak ranks as fourth longest in Seahawk history behind 1. 19 (2006-2007) 2. 16 (2002-2003) and 3. 12 (2001-2002). Each of those seasons culminated with a conference championship.

Salve Regina returns to the road on Saturday against New England College (1 p.m.) while Wentworth tries to snap its four-game losing skid at Regis College.
