Bulldogs Take an Early Lead to Beat Trine 55-46

ADRIAN, Mich. – A quick start by the Adrian College women's basketball team provided them with a lead that the visiting Trine University could not overcome in their 55-46 victory. The Bulldogs moved their record to 7-10 on the season and 4-6 in the MIAA.

Adrian started the game on an 11-2 run as they built their lead to as much as 14 in the first half before ending the half leading 23-14. The 14 points the Bulldogs held Trine to in the first half was the lowest points scored by an opponent in any half this season. Trine didn't reach double-digits until 1:08 left in the half.

The Thunder tried to rally several times, as they got as close at 31-30 at 13:31 before the Bulldogs went on a 9-2 run to push the lead back to eight. Adrian led by as many as 12 in the second half as they traded baskets with Trine.

LaQwana Dockery (Macomb, Mich./Dakota), a freshman, led all players with a season-high 19 points going 8-12 from the field while also swatting away two shots. Fellow freshman Senneca Scott (Livonia, Mich./Franklin) also scored a season-high with nine points while pulling down eight rebounds. The junior tandem of Jenn Headley (Hicksville, Ohio/Hicksville) and Kellee Wonders (Pittsford, Mich./Hudson) had identical stat lines scoring six points and pulling down eight boards. Sophomore Nicole Boggs (Gibraltar, Mich./St. Mary's Catholic Central) added in five points while dishing out a game-high five assists.

Adrian shot 54 pct. from the field in the second half compared to 30 in the first half. The Bulldogs held Trine to 6-26 (23%) from the field in the first half and 2-11 (18%) from behind the arc for the game.

Adrian will look avenge an early season loss when they host Albion College at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 29.
