Farmington scores win over Thomas

Kenni Norton (Strong, Maine) scored 19 points to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 76-64 North Atlantic Conference women's basketball win over Thomas College tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Beavers (7-8 overall, 4-2 NAC) are scheduled to host Husson University Saturday at 1 p.m. The Terriers dropped to 5-9 (3-3) and are scheduled to host Maine Maritime Academy Saturday at 2 p.m.

Jillian Ross (Belfast, Maine) turned in a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards for the Beavers, who outscored Thomas 41-32 in the second half to distance themselves from the Terriers. Ashley Busque (Belgrade, Maine) added 15 points in the victory.

Farmington shot 47.1 percent (16-34) in the second half, while limiting the Terriers to 31 percent (9-29). For the game, the Beavers outshot the Terriers 29.4 (26-66) to 32.3 (21-65)

Karin Bird (Lee, Maine) powered Thomas with 25 points, while Mallorie Blakney (Fairfield, Maine) pitched in 14 points and Kate Thibodeau (Woolwich, Maine) grabbed 10 rebounds. Bird knocked down eight of 10 foul shots.

The first half featured seven ties with the final deadlock at 31-31 with 3:23 before halftime. A Kelsey Graffam (Falmouth, Maine) layup and a pair of Paige Saunders (Surry, Maine) free throws helped the hosts into a 35-32 advantage at intermission.

The Beavers started the second half with a 7-1 spurt to take a 42-33 command, but the Terriers responded with the next six points to knock the lead to 43-29. Keyed by 3-pointers by Ross and Lindsay Gordon (Winslow, Maine), Farmington outscored Thomas 13-5 over the next four minutes to push into a 57-44 lead.

Farmington led by as many as 19 points en route to the 76-54 victory.
