#19 Mount Union Handles Otterbein

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's nationally ranked women's basketball team carried a late first-half run into the second period to pull away for a 67-53 victory over Otterbein in Ohio Athletic Conference action at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

Taylor Hartung (Canton/Massillon Perry) finished with 11 points and three assists while Katie Crider (Brunswick/Brunswick) contributed 10 points for the Purple Raiders, who bridged a 18-2 run across both halves.

Eight different Raiders contributed to the outburst, which began with a 9-2 stretch in the first. Mount Union then started the second, 9-0, to build a 40-24 lead; credit Hartung and Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) with four points each during the streak.

The Raiders led by 20 on three separate occasions.

Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) led the Raiders on the glass with six rebounds. Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) added four steals and three assists while Rose also dished three assists.

Kristi Kotterman had 11 points and four steals to lead Otterbein (6-11, 2-8) while Hannah Day grabbed eight rebounds.

The Purple Raiders (14-2, 7-2), who are rated 18th by ESPN/USA Today and 19th by D3Hoops.com, will return to action with a key matchup at Baldwin-Wallace (13-3, 8-1) on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Mount Union currently sits in second place -- one game behind the Yellow Jackets.
