Women's basketball team uses balanced scoring attack to beat Adrian, 70-52

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to beat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Adrian College this afternoon at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. With the win, the Comets improve to 5-4 in MIAA.

In the first half, Adrian built a five-point lead, 16-11, at the 10:57 mark. Olivet ended the half with a 23-4 run to lead by 14 points, 34-20, at the break. In the second half, the Comets extended their lead to as many as 26 points with five minutes left. The closest the Bulldogs would get was 15 points with 1:49 remaining.

Senior Kaitlin Oleksyn (Kalamazoo/Parchment) led Olivet with 11 points. Senior Tiffany Thelen (Lansing/Waverly) added 10 points on 3-for-3 shooting from the floor and 4-for-4 shooting from the free throw line. She ended the week by making all eight of her shots. Off the bench, sophomore Mellissa Bageris (Milford) and freshman Heather Lauwers (Ortonville/Brandon) each scored eight points. Sophomore Alison Focht (Walled Lake/ Western) and senior Caitlin Thilo (Onondaga/Eaton Rapids) contributed seven points apiece. Junior Alysia Cole (Roseville) had six points to go along with a team-leading six rebounds.

LaQwana Dockery was the only Adrian player in double figures with 14 points. Jasmine Byers and Senneca Scott each pulled down seven rebounds.

Olivet returns to the court next Wednesday, Jan. 26, when it plays at Saint Mary's (Ind.) College, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
