Season-High 28 For Hayes Help Lightning Over Keystone

More news about: Lehman

The Keystone College Giants got a look at what happens when Lehman senior Louvinia Hayes is on her game and they surely don't want to see it again any time soon as the Lightning dropped Keystone to 1-10 on the season with a 75-63 win on Wednesday.

Hayes was simply on fire in the first half, torching the hosts for 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting, 6-of-10 from three-point range, on her way to a game-high 28 points as the Lightning built a 15 point lead that settled to 41-32 lead at the break.

As good as Hayes was in the first half, though, the Giants managed to cut the deficit to 41-40 on Ellen Fallon's three-pointer with 14:23 remaining. Amanda De La Cruz's jumper temporarily halted the 8-0 Keystone run as both teams traded baskets and foul shots over the next several minutes.

With 10:38 remaining, Keystone's Tiana Cuttino drained one of two free throws to once again make it a one possession game at 51-48. From that point on, however, the Lightning put together a 16-0 run behind six free throws from Jaleesa Gordon and a jumper and three-pointer from Paula Robinson that ballooned Lehman's advantage to 67-48. Keystone would get no closer than 12 the rest of the way as the Lightning was not threatened again.

Aside from her season-high scoring barrage, Hayes chipped in nine rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks. De La Cruz notched her first double-double of the season finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Gordon also posted a double-double of her own with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lightning forced Keystone into 27 turnovers leading to 34 points.

Lehman returns home on Friday to face CUNYAC rival John Jay College in the first of a month's worth of upcoming conference games.
