The University of Redlands women's basketball team uncorked a 65.2% shooting performance, which included a 6-for-10 showing from beyond the arc, during tonight's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match-up against the University of La Verne in Currier Gym. With five players in double figures, highlighted by a career-high 21 points from senior forward Allison Clark (Altadena, CA), the Bulldogs garnered an early 12-2 lead and never looked back en route to the resounding 82-56 victory over the Leopards.
The Maroon and Gray held a 41-23 advantage at the break as Clark dropped in 15 of her team-high 21 points during the opening frame.
Redlands maintained control by rattling off an impressive shooting display of 69.6% during the second stanza.
La Verne fought back to close within 14 points midway through the period but the Bulldogs responded with a 14-1 run to make it a 27-point ball game with less than six minutes remaining.
In addition to Clark's solid 10-for-13 shooting, four other Bulldogs scored 10 or more points. Junior guard Mariah Barbetti-Cort (Ventura, CA) supplied 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists, while freshman forward Brittany Oster (Agoura Hills, CA) and freshman guard Jesse Luersen (Bend, OR) chipped in 12 apiece. Oster also nabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists. Junior point guard Christina Rios (San Diego, CA) added 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.
La Verne (5-9, 2-2 SCIAC) gained a game-high 22 points from Mayra Duenas, while Amanda Copas backed her with 19 points. These two players accounted for 73% of the Leopards' offense. As a team, La Verne shot 34.4% from the field, which included a 5-for-27 showing from long range.
Redlands (9-6, 3-1 SCIAC) looks forward to Take a Kid to the Game® Night on Saturday as it hosts the Poets of Whittier College at 5 p.m. in a SCIAC doubleheader. The men's game follows at approximately 7 p.m.
