ROADRUNNERS CRUISE BY NJCU, 79-44 IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team earned a 79-44 victory tonight at the Bradley Center behind 20 points from Ryan. With the New Jersey Athletic Conference win, the Roadrunners improve to 11-6overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Gothic Knights remain defeated in the conference falling to 0-6 while standing at 3-13 overall.

Ryan shot 8-16 from the field including two three-point goals while Lindsey Gripenburg and Alayna Donadio shot 14-18 combined netting 17 and 14 points respectively. The Roadrunners hit 54% of their shots hitting 31-57 from the field. Danielle Beam dished out eight assists and Beam and Gripenburg each pulled down eight rebounds. Carolina Garcia led the Gothic Knights with 18 points and Maria Suarez netted 14 as the team hit a combined 19-67 (28%) from the field. Suarez recorded a double-double with her points and a team high ten rebounds and Nidia Carmona dished out three assists in the loss.

The Lady Roadrunners jumped out to a 42-26 halftime lead after shooting a combined 18-34 (53%) from the field while holding the Gothic Knights to 11 field goals on 31 attempts (36%) and forcing 12 turnovers. NJCU got on the scoreboard first with two point goals from Delia Chernez and Garcia, before Ramapo's Brittany Howes sunk a basket to come within two. Howes hit back-to-back free throws and Gripenburg put Ramapo up 6-4 with a jump shot before Garcia sunk a three-point goal to take a 7-6 edge. That would be the final time the Gothic Knights led in the half as the Roadrunners climbed to a 16-point lead at 1:38 and again at the buzzer when Gripenburg put away two and Lindsey Jachens drove to the basket laying the ball in the net respectively for a 42-26 halftime lead. Gripenburg led the team shooting 5-7 for 12 points while Donadio and Alexa Ryan chipped in eight and seven points respectively. Garcia led the Gothic Knights with 15 points shooting 6-12, including three three-point goals. Alnisa Hernaiz grabbed a team high six boards.

The Roadrunners forced an additional 14 Gothic Knight turnovers in the final 20 minutes of play and climbed to their biggest lead of the half with 5:18 on the clock when Donadio hit jump shot to put Ramapo up, 75-38, a 37-point edge. The Gothic Knights would come with 33 with two straight baskets from Tatiana Clark and Suarez, but the Roadrunners responded with a mini 4-0 run of their own to again spread their lead to 37, 79-42 with 00:23 on the clock. Chernez hit the final basket of the night with just 12 seconds to go to wrap up the NJAC basketball match-up, 79-44 in Ramapo's favor. Ryan netted 13 points in the final half of play while her team went 13-23 (57%) from the field. Donadio shot a perfect 3-3 from the field and pulled down three rebounds and Beam dished out four assists in the half. Suarez led NJCU in the second half of play with nine points and Garcia sunk just three as the team hit a combined 8-36 (22%). Garcia grabbed three steals in the half.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, January 22nd when they travel to NJAC rival Kean University for a 1pm tip.
