Senior Jahde Hammer matched a career-high with 20 points and dished out seven assists, to help lead five Beavers in double figures and give BVU an 80-69 Iowa Conference victory over Central College on Wednesday night.  The win also gives head coach Janet Berry her 200th IIAC triumph.

Hammer finished 6-of-15 from the field and sank 7-of-11 attempts at the free-throw line.  Fellow senior Jocelyn Kock, in just her second game back from a two-week layoff, followed with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Sophomore Brooke Wehle drilled a team-leading three long range buckets to also chime in with 13 points, while Laura Hilby and Brittany Gunn each added 10 points.

The game was in single digits for the entire first half until Wehle buried a three-pointer with just less than three minutes left to cap an 8-0 run and give BVU a 34-24 lead.  It maintained that advantage and took a 38-26 lead into the locker room.

The Beavers then took control at the start of the second half with a 21-6 run that gave them a comfortable 59-32 lead with 11:24 left to play.  They continued to lead 69-49 with just less than five minutes to play and made 7-of-8 free-throws down the stretch to secure the 11-point win.

The Beavers connected on just 32.4 percent from the field to start the game, but used a 10-of-10 effort at the charity stripe to take control.  The heat then turned up in the second half as the team made 14-of-27 (51.9 percent) shots from the field and continued to make free-throws (14-of-18).

Coach Berry, who captured her 300th career victory early this season, is now 200-114 during conference play.  Her team has also won three straight against the Dutch and 5-of-7.

Buena Vista improves to 8-9 overall (4-4 IIAC) and will return home on Saturday to begin the second half of its IIAC schedule with a 4:00pm contest against Cornell College.  It will also be Alumni Day on campus, and the JV women's team will take on the BVU Alumni at 12:00pm.
