Vitale surpasses 1,000 careeer points in 75-45 win at Anna Maria

Paxton, Mass. – Senior center Ashley Vitale (Wilmington, Mass.) became the eighth player in program history, and second this season, to topple 1,000 career points in the Gulls' 75-45 win over host Anna Maria in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action Wednesday night.  Vitale finished with 19 points in the win, the fifth straight for Endicott (10-4, 4-0 TCCC). 

One of the Gulls' most consistent players all season long, Vitale entered the game needing 13 points to reach the career milestone and hit the mark with a layup in the opening minute of the second-half.  She finished 8-of-15 from the floor and added five steals and four rebounds.   

Classmate and fellow 1,000-point scorer Ashley Wright (Merrimack, N.H.) contributed 19 points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals for the Gulls, who turned 25 AMCAT turnovers into 32 points. 

The Gulls' quickly found themselves in a 7-0 hole after missing their first six shots.  Wright drilled a three-pointer with just over 16 minutes remaining to put EC on the board.

Both teams traded buckets until freshman Samantha Crough (Cohasset, Mass.) hit a jumper near the midway point of the first half to give the Gulls their first lead of the game, 16-14.  Crough picked up her second her second double-double of the season after finishing with 11 points and ten rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.

The visitors would stretch the lead to as many as 11 in the opening period before taking a six point lead into the break.

Vitale scored the first four points out of the locker room as the Gulls quickly stretched their lead to double-digits (39-29). 

Chelsea Blair's (Holland, Mass.) layup with 11:34 remaining the game cut Anna Maria's deficit to just five.  Blair finished with six points and a team-high ten rebounds. 

The Gulls responded with a 16-0 run over the ensuing 6:33 to put the game out of reach. 

Junior guard Kate Kovach (Moon Township, Pa.), who finished with a season-high seven points, was part of an Endicott bench that outscored Anna Maria 25-0.  Endicott's leading rebounder, senior forward Brittany Kelleher (Wakefield, Mass.) hauled in a team-high ten boards in the win.

The AMCATS were led by Alison McCarthy's (Lynn, Mass.) 18 points.  The sophomore exploded for 13 first-half points before being held to just five in the second stanza.  Samantha Ashton (Worcester, Mass.) added ten points for Anna Maria (6-10, 0-4 TCCC).

Endicott looks for its' six straight win on Saturday (Jan. 2) when it takes on to TCCC-foe Wentworth at 1:00 pm.
