Bulldogs Squash the Hornets 60-50

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Adrian College women's basketball team turned in a solid performance in their 60-50 win over MIAA Kalamazoo College. The win improves the Bulldogs to 6-9 on the season and 3-5 in the conference.

Adrian jumped out to a quick 10-5 lead before allowing Kalamazoo to come back to tie the game a 10 apiece. The Bulldogs would counter with an 8-0 run of their own before closing out the first half leading 29-22. The Adrian lead grew to 11 five different times throughout the second half as the Bulldogs never lost the lead. Kalamazoo was never any closer than four points.

Katie Ross (Clawson, Mich./Clawson), a junior, led the Bulldogs in scoring for the second consecutive game nailing home a game-high 17 points. Ross went six for 11 from the floor while making four of eight shots from behind the arc. Fellow junior Kellee Wonders (Pittsford, Mich./Hudson) scored 11 points while pulling down seven boards, swatting two shots and grabbing two steals. Freshman LaQwana Dockery (Macomb, Mich./Dakota ) scored a career-high 10 points and seven rebounds while dropping three dimes. Another freshman, Senneca Scott (Livonia, Mich./Franklin), pulled in a game-high eight rebounds and scoring five points. The sophomore duo of Jasmine Byers (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) and Nicole Boggs (Gibraltar, Mich./St. Mary's Catholic Central ) provided help off the bench as Byers grabbed seven rebounds and Boggs dished out a game-high four assists.

For the night the Bulldogs shot better percentage from the floor, 45-35 and from behind the three point line, 35-0. Adrian also held a considerable advantage on the boards out-rebounding the Hornets 47-24.

Adrian will travel next to take on Olivet College (4-11, 3-4 MIAA) on Saturday, January 22 at 3:00 p.m.
