NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Norwich women's basketball team opened their Great Northeast Athletic Conference schedule at "The Nest" at Albertus Magnus College, rolling past the Falcons in great fashion, 79-59.

Senior captain Christine Daniels capitalized on another double-double performance this evening on the road. The effort now extends her record to 10 this season and with the NCAA's recognition, has just been ranked #1 in double-doubles among all Division-III women's basketball athletes.

In tonight's game, Daniels netted 17 points and 18 rebounds. She shot 6-of-19 inside the arc and drained 5-of-7 free throws. Daniels evenly distributed her boards with nine on the offensive side and another nine to defend the Cadets' basket. Daniels was also credited with four assists on the night.

Also recording a double-double for the Cadets was senior Laurel McWilliams, her second in as many games, as she made her 2010-11 season debut in Norwich's previous game. McWilliams chipped in 14 points and 12 boards, shooting 6-of-14 and 2-of-4 from the line.

The Cadets welcomed back senior Karissa Doyon, the team's leading scorer, who proved she had not lost a step over the winter break. Doyon shot 8-of-14 from inside the arc, a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, and drained one 3-pointer for a game-high 23 points. She also recorded game-high three steals and contributed eight rebounds.

Sophomore Jessalyn Sweeney made an impact in the win by adding 10 points to the scoreboard, as she drained two 3-pointers, both attempted free-throws and was 3-of-6 in shooting. Sweeney also set up her teammates for important points to earn three assists.

Norwich continues to advance its record in a positive direction, now sitting at 8-4 and a promising 1-0 start to the competitive GNAC schedule.

The Cadets will be returning home to Andrews Hall on Tuesday, hosting St. Joseph's (Conn.) at 7 p.m. in their second GNAC match-up of the season.
