Dover, Del. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team overcame an 11-point first half deficit Monday afternoon as the Seahawks (8-7, 4-3 CAC) posted a 69-55 victory over host Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action to snap a three-game losing streak.  Junior forward Taylor Petrisko (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) registered her first career double-double on 11 points and career-best 12 rebounds in the win.

Petrisko guided a strong bench effort as the Seahawk reserves outscored the Wesley bench, 34 to 15, while Petrisko and first-year forward Shana Lewis (Bowie, Md./Bowie) combined for 19 boards as St. Mary's out-rebounded the Wolverines by a 52-31 margin.

The win put St. Mary's into a two-way tie with York (Pa.) College for fourth in the conference standings while the Wolverines continue their losing streak with a fourth straight loss.

Wesley (7-9, 2-5 CAC) started off strong with a 15-4 margin with 14:11 remaining in the first half as senior forward Angie Owens (Seaford, Del./Seaford) scored eight points, including six straight.  The trio of Lewis, Petrisko and first-year forward Raven Owens (Annapolis, Md./Severn) ignited the Seahawk rally as the threesome scored all but four points (Lewis – 11, Petrisko – 8, Owens – 7) in the team's 30-11 run to close out the half and own a 34-26 halftime advantage.

Lewis tallied 13 of her 16 points in the first half to lead all scorers while Owens finished the afternoon with her seven first-half points and matched her season-best with five caroms.

The Wolverines pulled within 44-35 following a long-range shot by senior Allison Beddia (New Castle, Del./Delcastle) at 13:43.  That's how close Wesley would come as the Seahawks went on a 15-4 run to lead by 20 with 6:54 left in the game.

Owens led the Wolverines with 16 points and nine rebounds while sophomore guard Rachelle Allen (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) contributed 15 off the bench.

St. Mary's looks to pick up their second straight win Wednesday, January 19 as the Seahawks welcome Salisbury University to the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics and Recreation Center Arena for a conference tilt at 6:00 pm.
