New London, Conn. - The visiting Trinity College Bantam women's basketball team earned a 63-49 victory against the Connecticut College Camels in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) game played at Luce Field House this afternoon.  The Bantams improve to 11-3 and are a perfect 2-0 in conference action with their fifth consecutive win and their seventh straight over Connecticut College.  The Camels slip to 7-8 with an 0-2 mark in league play.

Junior guard Michelle Royals (Torrington, Conn.) netted 14 points to go with four rebounds, four assists and three steals for the winning side. Classmate Kaitlin Ciarleglio (Waterbury, Conn.) contributed 13 points, five rebounds and five assists, while rookie forward Shantel Hanniford (Nantucket, Mass.) posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 caroms, and sophomore swing player Carly Napier (Pittsford, N.Y.) added 10 points for Trinity.  Connecticut College was led by junior Jenn Shinall (Redding, Conn.) and first year forward Tara Gabelman (Irvington, N.Y.), who tallied 15 points each.  Shinall added eight rebounds and three assists, while Gabelman finished with seven boards and three blocked shots.

Trinity never trailed, scoring the game's first six points and taking a 17-7 lead on a hoop by Napier with 10:19 to go. But the Camels answered with a 6-to-0 run, trimming the Bantam advantage to 17-13 with a Shinall jumper at the 7:40 mark.  The Bantams used a jumper by Ciarleglio at the buzzer to carry a 29-23 lead into the break.  In the second half, Trinity put together a 14-to-4 run to take control. Hanniford went to the floor to make a steal in the Camel backcourt and passed ahead to Ciarleglio for a layup that gave the Bantams a double-digit advantage at 44-33 at the 11-minute mark.  Hanniford capped the rally with 8:09 remaining to make the score, 48-33, on a wide-open, fast-break lay-up after sophomore forward Heather Lyhne (Wethersfield, Conn.) had grabbed a defensive rebound, dribbled through traffic into the Bantam offensive ebd, and threaded a pass to her at the foul line.
