HOBOKEN, N.J. (January 14, 2011) – Junior Isaura Guzman (Union City, N.J.) netted a game-high 16 points as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team cruised to a 63-45 win over visiting St. John Fisher College at Canavan Arena in Hoboken, N.J. With the win, the Ducks moved to 11-1 on the year and 4-0 in conference play – extending their win-steak to eight games – while the Cardinals fell to 5-9 on the season with a 2-3 league ledger.

Freshman Camaryn Buckner (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) opened up scoring with a three on the Cardinals' first possession before Ducks' junior forward Jillian Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa.) put Stevens on the board with her first bucket of the evening.

Senior guard Colleen Maloney (Liverpool, N.Y.) responded with a triple on the other end before another Barrett basket coupled with a Victoria Webber (Silver Spring, Md.) free-throw trimmed the Ducks' deficit to one. Another Buckner trey followed by a Meghan Soja (Whitesboro, N.Y.) layup upped the Fisher lead to 11-5 at the 13:16 mark, but Stevens answered with a 23-2 run over the next six minutes of action, building a 13-point cushion.

Guzman got the Stevens rally started with a pair of free-throws before a Barrett layup knotted things at 11 with just over 12 minutes left in the half. Junior guard Dawn Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y.) then tallied five of the game's next seven points, putting Stevens up 21-13 on a three before an Avis Benjamin (Queens, N.Y.) jumper and five-consecutive Guzman points capped of the Ducks' run to make it 28-13.

Both teams would trade baskets over the final seven minutes of the period before sophomore guard Jessica Krzemien (East Concord, N.Y.) cut it to 12 with a layup at the 47 second mark. Barrett then closed out the half with a pair of free-throws to stake Stevens to a 37-23 halftime advantage.

Trailing 39-25 in the second after another Barrett jumper, Maloney drained a basket from distance to trim the Ducks' lead to 11, but Barrett again answered, this time burying a triple of her own to up the margin to 14. Several minutes later, senior guard Stephanie Sweeney (Albany, N.Y.) netted a jumper to cut it to 45-34, before a Guzman three at 11:29 pushed the Ducks' edge back up to 14.

With just under 10 to go, Guzman buried another triple to put Stevens up 17 before three-straight Amanda Lax (Warwick, N.Y.) free-throws sliced the lead to 51-37. Guzman again dialed it in from distance with 7:15 left, connecting on her third trey of the frame, making it 54-37, but four unanswered Maloney points quickly pulled the Cardinals within 13.

Hoping to put the game out of reach, Barrett found a wide open Molly Spadaro (Sewell, N.J.) in the right corner for a three, before drilling a jumper of her own to give Stevens a decisive 59-41 advantage with just over four minutes remaining. Fisher would pull within 16 on a pair of Soja free-throws at 2:49 but that was as close as the Cardinals would get, with the Ducks holding on for their 11th-victory of the season.

Three Ducks finished in double-figures, led by Guzman's game-high 16 points. Barrett added 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting, while Garcia had 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Benjamin and Webber combined for 12 points and 7 rebounds in the win.

Maloney and Bucker each tallied 12 points to lead Fisher, with Bucker going 5-for-9 from the field. Soja had eight points in the loss, while Lax finished with seven points and three boards.

Stevens, which as of games played through January 9, ranked second in the country in both scoring defense (45.5) and rebounding margin (+14.5) and seventh in field-goal percentage (30.7), held the Cardinals to a 36.2 shooting percentage (17-for-47), while outrebounding Fisher 39-31.
