Bearcats Defeat Staten Island, Salmon & Bouwens Honored Pre-Game With Career 1,000 Pt Ball

The Baruch Bearcats shot 53 percent (41-78) to record a 101-52 CUNYAC home victory against the College of Staten Island on Friday night in the ARC Arena.

With the result, the Bearcats improve to 12-3 overall and 5-0 in CUNYAC, while the visiting Dolphins drop to 3-10 overall and 2-3 in CUNYAC.

The Bearcats led from start to finish and out-scored the Dolphins, 54-24, with scoring in the paint. The Baruch bench was also busy scoring 39 total points compared to four by Staten Island.

Sophomore Jessica Duleba scored a career-high 20 points (9-15 fg), while Megan Bouwens (six rebounds) and Folashade Akinde (11 rebounds) finished with 15 points each. Akinde, who also recorded a double-double, finished the game with two steals.

Freshman Karyn Purcell (4-7, 3fg) scored a career-high 14 points. Regina Washington contributed 11 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals.

Allie Shanahan and Olivia Tierno (eight rebounds) both led Staten Island with 15 points each. Shanahan scored her 1,000th career point late in the second half.

Prior to the game, Head Coach Machli Joseph and the women's basketball program presented seniors Monique Salmon and Megan Bouwens with their career 1,000th point balls.

The Bearcats will return to action on Monday, January 17, with a 6:00 pm non-conference contest at Richard Stockton College in Pomona, New Jersey.
