Cougars Fall in OT to Presidents; Hilko Becomes First Cougar in History to Surpass 1000 Points

WASHINGTON, PA (January 12, 2011) . . . The Chatham University women's basketball team dropped its second overtime Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss of their season tonight on the road at Washington and Jefferson College (W&J). W&J earned the overtime victory tonight over the Cougars by a final score of 70-65.

 

W&J led by five points early in the game and that would prove to be its largest lead of the evening as the Cougars led by four points after the first 20 minutes of play. Chatham held its largest lead of the game in the second half, when they led by 11 points with just over 16 minutes of play.

 

W&J out-scored Chatham 33-29 in the second half and 11-6 in the overtime period to earn their victory. Chatham's lone athlete in double figures tonight was sophomore Colleen Kiss (McKeesport, PA/Oakland Catholic), who scored a season-high 18 points. Senior guard Catlyn Kriston (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) for the Presidents also netted 18 points tonight.

 

Senior Kayla Hilko (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) scored six points tonight for Chatham and became the first player in Chatham's 22-year history to go over 1000 points. Hilko now sits at 1001 points total for her career as a Cougar.

 

Tonight's close game featured two ties and three lead changes en route to W&J's overtime victory. With their victory, the Presidents extend their winning streak to 16-0 all-time over the Cougars.

 

Chatham drops to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in PAC play with tonight's loss to the Presidents. The Cougars return to action on Saturday, January 15th as they host Bethany College, another PAC match-up, scheduled for 2 pm.
