MILWAUKEE -- Concordia University Chicago used a 7-0 run early in the second half to take a seven-point lead which it never relinquished and came away with a 59-49 Northern Athletics Conference victory over host Alverno College tonight in Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno (5-8, 3-5 NAC) cut the lead to just two points on two different occasions, but the Cougars (5-7, 2-5) answered back both times.

Concordia Chicago outshot the Inferno 43 percent to 30 percent, including making 4-of-10 from long range, while the Inferno hit only 6-of-23 from the 3-point arc, which proved to be the difference.

Gabby Allen (Milwaukee/Bay View), Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and Shataya McComb (Kingston, N.Y.) paced the Inferno with 12, 10 and 9 points. McComb also had team-highs with eight rebounds and three steals and Allen led the passing attack with three assists.

Concordia Chicago was led by Marche Smith's game-high 22 points and nine rebounds, and teammate Krystyna Rickett chipped in 10 points.

Alverno in next in action on Tuesday when they host Edgewood College in a NAC contest. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Reiman Gymnasium.
