ANGOLA, Ind. – Albion College stayed a game behind the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association leaders with a 60-47 victory over Trine University. The Britons, 3-1 in league play, have sole possession of third place in the standings as they prepare for a Wednesday date with fourth-place Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind., on Wednesday, Jan. 12.
Albion outscored Trine by 16 points in the second half to gain the victory. Haley Killingbeck scored the first basket of the period as Trine built its biggest lead of the day at 28-23.
Melissa Shaw scored three baskets to lead Albion on an 11-2 run. The Britons held a 34-30 lead on Kelsey Effner's jumper three minutes into the second half.
Trine rallied to tie the score at 35. Albion never surrendered the lead as Nicole Dennis scored a 3-point basket and layup to spark a 9-0 run. The margin reached double digits on Autumn Haggadone's free throw with six minutes to play.
Shaw scored all of her team-high 16 points in the second half. Her stat line included six rebounds and three steals. Patty Rewa contributed 11 points and nine rebounds.
Liz Gehrig was Trine's high scorer with 12 points.
