Olivet women’s basketball team falls to Calvin, 68-34

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team was defeated by Calvin College, 68-34, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest today at the Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids.

The Comets were led by senior Tiffany Thelen (Lansing/Waverly), who scored 10 points on 2-of-3 shooting from the floor and a perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the free throw line. Senior Stephanie Spehar (South Lyon) was next with five points. Thelen along with juniors Alysia Cole (Roseville) and Debbie Nikodemski (Rockford) each pulled down four rebounds.

For Calvin, Carissa Verkaik led all players with 16 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. Julia Hilbrands and Jill Thomas scored nine points apiece.

Olivet will return home to face Kalamazoo College next Wednesday, Jan. 12. Tip-off at The Cutler Event Center is 7:30 p.m.
